Today I thought I’d do something different, and just tell you a bit about what I study in a modified intro of what I use when I start my research talks… I didn’t take time practicing a bunch to make it perfect so there are er, some, um, likes, and stuff. Sorry! But I hope this helps give you a sense of what I study (and, after yesterday’s discussion of graphics, helps show you why it can be super useful to make your own graphic symbols in a vector graphics program like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape. I make my figures in Illustrator, then import them into Keynote and animate them. I actually have updated slides with slightly improved figures, but I didn’t have time to fix them all for this, so hopefully you don’t mind the imperfectness on both the talking and the viewing).
