basically it’s just like making all your samples, etc. measured on the same scale/equivalent playing fields to help you compare. Like subtracting the background or scaling for how much sample is present so you don’t compare to samples of a thing think there’s twice as much of one part of a thing when really there’s twice as much of the whole thing. The ways you do it depend on the technique, etc. and what you are trying to normalize.
