Something introduced into an individual that comes from a different individual. From allo, meaning other. Ex: Bone marrow from a healthy, immune trigger (HLA)-matched, donor, is removed from the donor and placed into a marrow-cleared patient. Requires careful matching and/or modification to avoid immune rejection. It is in contrast to autologous transplants, which involve transplanting a patient’s own cells, etc. back into them after removing them for storage and/or treatment (such as gene editing).
